Magazine Clippings Collage Activity
Do you have old magazines around the house? If so, before you throw them out let your child(ren) have a little fun with them. Gather the children around the kitchen table and let them make a collage out of the old magazines. This is an easy activity and children love it because glue is involved.
Take the magazines and place them in the center of the table, make sure you have at least one for each child, don’t want to start a fight before you ever get started.
Give each child a pair of child’s scissors and glue (this can be a glue stick or elmer’s glue in the bottle)
Give them a piece of paper to make their collage (can be notebook, butcher, cardboard, etc.)
Let each child choose a magazine from the pile
As they begin cutting out pictures that are interesting to them you may need to assist if necessary, especially if child is just beginning to learn how to use scissors.
Let them decide whether or not to cut out all pictures first then glue or cut and glue as they go along.
This is an adult supervised activity, but don’t do it for them. This is THEIR collage. If parents want to get involved do your own collage alongside your children. Make it a family activity.
As each child gets finished allow theĀ ones who finish early to choose another activity they can do on their own while the other children finish.
When all the children are done place each collage somewhere to dry, then hang in each child’s room for decoration.
